Tonight has me pondering.
We received 11 new Hope Pkgs bags from a family that has donated before. A family that has adopted children from very difficult places. A family that loves their children. They know how kids can arrive at your home owning absolutely nothing. To this family and all the other people that have donated over the past year, a thank you is not enough. You are people that most likely will never see the children receive these special bags, yet you give anyway.
I open up the bags and imagine what child will receive such a special gift. Where that child has come from. Who that child will miss. What that child has witnessed. How the foster parents and bio parents will cope. I pray for healing in the families and hearts of the children.
Since November 2015 more than 700 bags have been distributed and this is wonderful news! But the sad side of it all is these bags have been given to children removed from crime, drug abuse, medical and physical neglect, death of a parent and the list goes on. Now, I hate to be a party-pooper but we have much work to do. I wish I could say we are done. But while there are still humans in this world, we will have trouble & dispair. We will have children that need to be protected and parents that need guidance in order to continue to parent.
With an average of 14,000 kids in Michigan foster care per year, to say we are in need is a huge understatement. So many children age-out. Many end up homeless, in sex-trafficking or incarcerated. Just in Kent county last month, over 400 children were removed. I know it seems almost hopeless, but please believe that we can ALL make a difference.
I encourage you to do something to help the world be a brighter place. Take that step toward becoming a foster parent, reach out to your neighbors, commit random acts of kindness, or just offer a kind word. One person can't help everyone but everyone can help one person.
Hope Pkgs will continue to reach out to kids as long as we can, thanks to kind hearts like you.
Do you know what happens when you combine women who have huge hearts for kids & a company that donates over $2000? You get a fun night filled with shopping & assembling bags for kids who need basic necessities when entering foster care!
Special thanks to all the Shopping Angels who took part in our 1st Build A Bag event!
Sweet, generous Hannah chose to ask her birthday party guest for gifts for children entering foster care rather than receive gifts for herself.
Thank you dear Hannah! Your action speaks volumes to so many. May your kindness generate a domino effect around the world. I believe you are and will continue to be a positive, glorious world changer.
July 4th, 2016 Hope Pkgs was blessed by Bowerman Blueberries and our community of supporters. We broke records for the most breakfast served & largest donations collected. Over $1400 was given to help Hope Pkgs continue to serve kids in Michigan entering the foster care system. Thank you!!
Troxel Custom Homes and their generous clients, Andy & Sarah, hosted a private party in June. All to celebrate their brand new lovely home before the big reveal during the Parade of Homes. We thank them for choosing Hope Pkgs as recipients of "house warming" gifts for children enter foster care. Look at all the lovely, comforting items!
Writer, Lisa Van Engen has put together a great series to encourage play and learning all centered around different local charities. We thank her and all the guests for the fun night of crafts, games and more. Over 150 items were donated to Hope Pkgs during our 1 hour time of fun. Check out the other things Lisa has been up to and what is yet to come at her website: lisavanengen.com/
Fashion, furniture and fun! Thank you to Ubu Furniture, Priscilla's Boutique and Susie from WJQ for a night of wine, chocolate and beauty. We had so many generous people stop out to make donations to Hope Pkgs. Thank you all!!
